I was given a fertility yoga DVD and it ended up sitting in my nightstand drawer collecting dust for about a year. I don’t know why, but I just thought the DVD was silly. I don’t like hearing things like “I did acupuncture and I got pregnant after 2 weeks!” or, “Yoga definitely got me pregnant!” or, “I held my legs up over my head after intercourse…baby on the way now!” etc. etc. Those sort of things come off like the act of doing those particular things, get you pregnant. I do not agree with that. That is why I did not want anything to do with that DVD…it’s not magic.
Funny thing now, I am in LOVE with this DVD! Not because I think doing yoga is going to get me pregnant, but because the movements and this focused task is helping my mind and body relax during this viscous battle, and stressful time in my life I like to call, my infertility treatment journey. I call it a journey because It’s been a long ride, and every new appointment still only makes it feel like it just begun. Stay positive, Leslie, stay positive. But anyway, my point is, I do see the benefits yoga has with infertility. I don’t like the extreme comments that makes it seem like yoga is the answer to my infertility and going to get me pregnant. Unfortunately, I need medication from a fertility doctor. However, I do see how yoga is helpful. Certain yoga positions increases blood flow to the uterus and strengthens part of the reproductive center, which can induce ovarian function. It helps with relaxation and stress, and brings energy to the appropriate areas the body needs energy, to help with functioning properly. I support the idea that yoga is enhancing the results of my fertility medication prescribed by my fertility doctor.
It’s quite therapeutic waking up at 6:00am and doing yoga in my backyard, while it seems like the rest of the world is still sleeping. The weather has been perfect for it recently. It’s nice and cool and I get to see the sun come up. At the end of each DVD, they want to you lay there and relax for about 5 minutes. During this time, I try my hardest to just focus on breathing and shut my brain off. It’s during this time I get to cloud gaze, while I hear birds chirping, and the noise from our fountain in the backyard. That moment is almost as good as my first sip of coffee in the morning.
These are the 2 DVD’s I have been doing. Does anyone have any recommendations of some other ones?
